July 15 Auriesville and Catherine's house

Bryn: We saw a live beaver in the road on the way out of Cooperstown. We also saw a Menonite family with their horse and carriage near Auriesville. Those were firsts for all of us.
We visited the National Shrine of North American Martyrs in Auriesville, and the site of the Iroquois village of Ossernenon, birthplace of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, who is on her way to sainthood. http://www.martyrshrine.org There were swarms of mosquitos but thanks to bug spray I only got three bites and the boys didn't get any.
Then on to the Mohawk River Valley, the town of Rexford, and my cousin's house (white one on the right). We'll be with Catherine, her husband Tom, and their boys for a few days. Their daughter is in Europe. In the afternoon we had a trip to a local cemetery to visit family sites. We feasted on canolis and jelly doughnuts brought up from Cuccio's in Brooklyn by Tommy. The boys liked playing checkers on the sun porch.
